Singletrack Glacensis – A Mountain Thrill Ride for MTB Fans
If you’re looking for a true cycling adventure and adrenaline is your middle name, Singletrack Glacensis is the answer. This is a network of over 200 kilometers of one-way cycling trails in the Kłodzko Valley, designed specifically for mountain biking enthusiasts. The routes lead through the picturesque areas of the Bardzkie, Stołowe, and Orlickie Mountains, offering breathtaking views and technical challenges.
Don’t miss the section in the Bardo Municipality in particular. Beginners will find easier, flowing paths, while experienced bikers can test their skills on steeper descents and technical elements. Remember that during the season, especially on weekends, it can get crowded, so it’s best to arrive early in the morning to enjoy the peace and quiet of empty trails.
Difficulty level: From easy (green) to very difficult (black). Everyone will find something here.
Bike Rentals: Available in larger towns such as Stronie Śląskie or Lądek-Zdrój. The price of renting a mountain bike for a full day is comparable to the cost of a good meal at a restaurant.
Parking: Large parking lots can be found, for example, in Stronie Śląskie (ul. Kościuszki) or in Srebrna Góra. The parking fee is similar to the price of a coffee at a gas station.
Cycling Through the Land of Extinct Volcanoes – For Those Seeking Peace
For those who prefer a more relaxed ride and contact with nature without extreme descents, the Land of Extinct Volcanoes is the ideal destination. This area of the Kaczawskie Foothills is a hidden gem of Lower Silesia, full of green hills, historic castles, and of course, dormant volcanoes. The routes here are generally gentler, and the climbs less strenuous, making them a great idea for a family trip or a relaxing tour.
Pay attention to the trail around Ostrzyca Proboszczowicka, known as the “Silesian Fujiyama.” This peak with its characteristic conical shape is a remnant of a volcano. The climb to the top can be a challenge, but the views from above of the surrounding fields and forests are absolutely worth the effort. The entire region is a mosaic of small villages and towns where time flows more slowly. Here you can enjoy excellent food in local agritourism farms that serve dishes made from regional products.
Recommended Route: Start in Złotoryja, ride through Wojcieszów, Dobków (a European Village of Culture), and back. Length about 40-50 km, moderate route.
What to See: Myśliborskie Organs, Grodziec Castle, Myśliborski Waterfall.
Accommodations: Numerous agritourism farms offer accommodations in the mid-price range, often with bike storage options.
The Castles and Palaces Route – A Journey Through Time on Two Wheels
Lower Silesia is a region with a soul, and its historical wealth is best discovered by pedaling between majestic castles and elegant palaces. Tourists choose this option in large numbers because it allows them to combine physical activity with a history lesson. The Cross Route of the Piast Castles is just one of the proposals, leading to gems such as Książ Castle, Grodno Castle, or Bolków Castle.
Start your journey at Książ Castle, which is one of the largest in Europe. Although the bike ride up to the castle itself can be a bit uphill, the reward is an impressive view and the opportunity to explore its interiors. Then head towards Świdnica to admire the Church of Peace – a UNESCO World Heritage site. This is an ideal destination for a longer, multi-day trip that will allow you to fully immerse yourself in the region’s history. Practical Cyclist’s Guide to the Sudetes – What to Bring and What to Remember
Before setting out to conquer the Lower Silesian trails, it’s worth preparing properly. The Sudetes can surprise you with changeable weather, and mountain routes require a bit more than just willingness. A little secret from the locals: always carry a paper map with you – GPS signals can be unreliable in the mountains.
Essential Gear:
Helmet: This is the foundation of safety, especially on more challenging routes.
Repair Kit: Patches, pump, spare inner tube are the absolute minimum.
Appropriate Clothing: Layered, breathable, with wind and rain protection. Temperatures in the mountains can be lower than in the lowlands.
Water and Supplies: Hydration is key to success. There are fewer eateries on longer routes.
First Aid Kit: Small, but containing basic dressings.
When to Go?: The best time for cycling trips is late spring and early autumn. In summer, especially in July and August, it can be hot and crowded. In spring, the trails are beautifully green; in autumn, they burst with colors.
Navigation: In addition to a traditional map, it’s worth using mobile apps such as Locus Map or Mapy.cz, which work offline.
